BackFlo - BPR
In high pressure pumping applications the system often does not provide adequate pressure in the bypass line to prevent cavitation or flashing. A backflow pressure regulator (BPR) is used to maintain the pressure across the line and thereby reduce the possibility of flashing or cavitation that may occur in certain applications (such as Boiler feedwater applications).
Challenges
Even the optimised and sophisticated pressure reduction methods of Fetterolf minimum flow valves or automatic recirculation valves are put to their limits in the extreme conditions in some plants. In certain applications, the medium pressure can drop below the vapour pressure leading to flashing. In other instances the medium pressure can fall fall below the vapour pressure and then recover quickly leading to cavitation. It is in just such cases that the Fetterolf BackFlo pressure regulating valve is put to use.
Function
They help to increase and maintain the pressure above vapour pressure. They achieve this by generating a defined pressure differential. Unwanted evaporation and cavitation is prevented, ensuring smooth operation. Carefully matching the operating parameters between the feedback automatic recirculation valves along with control and Back Pressure Valve guarantees ideal plant operation.
Overview
In high pressure pumping applications the system often does not provide adequate pressure in the bypass line to prevent cavitation or flashing. Either of these conditions is undesirable in that it can cause damage to both valves and the pipe system or cause a reduction in flow beyond the minimum desired, jeopardizing the pump protection system.
All PRV’s will experience a velocity induced recovery effect which will limit the amount of pressure drop a valve can take and cause a reduction in flow capacity.
The Fetterolf Back Pressure Regulator creates a predefined back pressure thus eliminating the possibility of bubble formation that can lead to cavitation and flashing.
